A few of my favourite things

When I woke this morning and the rain was steadily beating on my roof instead of feeling glum I thought about the scene in "Sound of Music" when it is raining and thundering and the children come into the room and Julie Andrews breaks out into this fabulous good feeling song "Raindrops on Roses".  I was not going to let the rain put a damper on my day.  I began to think about my favourite things I have come across this week.  An exquisite bunch of roses I treated myself to from Rococo Flowers, a fabulous find at a garage sale last Saturday, an old Japanese saki bottle in an amazing shade of blue and of course a pair of oh so cute ruffily frilly Knickernoos I added to my collection this week.  Love the fabric!
I leapt out of bed and turned on my computer to share these beautiful images.  Firstly I opened my email....A HUGE SURPRISE ...Rowantree was featured on the Bondville Blog..Thanks Steph you have made mine, my friends, and my family's day.  It's a big buzz.  You have made the Rowantree online collection look as beautiful a it is.

Milly

I found some absolutely gorgeous fabric at the back of my studio last week.  I just can't believe that it had been hiding away for so long.  I just love the print, it evoked memories of  wonderful, fancy afternoon teas I shared with my beautiful and talented nanna.  She made her own teas, diffused with flower petals and herbs and when no one was looking just before she poured she would add a dash of Grand Marnier.  The table sometimes even looked good enough to eat,  laden with delicate cakes, tartlets and scrumptious finger sandwiches served on the most elegant assortment of fine bone china cups and saucers.

I can't remember how long these high teas would last, being young time is really never of the essence.  But what I do remember is sitting and listening to her stories of growing up.  I treasure all those wonderful heart felt stories and often when I am sitting in my kitchen drinking a delightful cup of tea I just think back and smile.

The print looks like a china cup and I wanted to make a very simple little dress as delicate as a piece of fine china.   This is Milly and will be available on my website very soon in sizes one, two and three.

Mathilda's Market

http://www.mathildasmarket.com.au/A brilliant Sydney sunny day, perfect for an outing to Mathilda's Market at the beautiful art deco style  Paddington Town Hall.  I enjoyed meeting lots of new people as well as catching up with stall holders and customers I have met on other occasions.  Thank you to all my loyal customers who came to see me and what I have added to the collection recently.  The Breezy Summer Frill dress in navy pokka dot, the French floral also the Belle dress in vintage green were very popular for the 2 - 5 age group.  The Lucy smock top and of course my favourite the Posie frill smock outfit were the choice for the baby girls.
Even though I was very busy at my stall I still made time to purchase some really cute tees for my grandson Rowan from Little Urchin, a fabulous framed picture from Alicia Gabriel (a boat of course) which will look great with the decor in Rowans room at my house and a fabulous hammock from Counting Sheep.  Hmm Rowan will have some beautiful sleeps in this gorgeous sleeping space.
Thank you Mathilda's Market for staging such a gorgeous space to shop for beautiful things.

Celebrate Halloween with Sew Beautiful!

Happy Halloween from the staff at Sew Beautiful! It's that time of year, and whether you're aiming for spooky or sweet, we have lots of ideas for you to create your own holiday magic. This autumn, we celebrated the release of our new vintage-inspired Halloween Stitchin' machine embroidery CD, complete with 20 multi-format designs (eight 4x4 words or phrases and twelve picture designs in both 4x4 and 5x7 sizes). You can snag one for $40.00 in our online store.

For some ideas on how to use these fun new designs, we featured a spread of projects in Issue #132, including a cute embellished pennant (templates available on the pullout centerfold of that issue), a custom treat tote (instructions and templates also on the pullout centerfold), and simple embellished linens (linen blanks available in our online store). Once you have your Halloween Stitchin' disc in hand, all you need is some ribbon, rickrack, buttons and felt baubles to get creative.

TIP: Don't have the time or patience to sew on all that trim? We are fans of using products like Steam-a-Seam 2 and Fabri-Tac glue when in a pinch! Or use our old favorite, Roxanne's Glue-Baste-It - you can tack it in place now, and sew it later for a permanent finish.

In Issue #132, we also shared some easy costume ideas from designers Audra Kennedy, Kari Mecca and Sis Hutchison that would be perfect for trick-or-treating, or even just playing dress-up.

The top three costumes pictured above are made using our blank skirted bubbles and embellished with sewn-on chiffon ruffle tutus and Whimsy Stick trims, while the bottom tutu is easily made with strips of tulle netting and elastic. Easy instructions for both tutu styles are available in Issue #132; information on the "Not-so-scary Witch" costume is available on our website.

For even more Halloween ideas, we referred back to our Pumpkin Parade feature in Issue #126, September/October 2009. Appropriate for both Halloween and autumn alike, free downloadable instructions are available in the Freebies section of our website for these smocked jack-o-lanterns, embroidered tea towel, stuffed pumpkins and pumpkin pillows.

We hope you feel inspired to create a few last minute Halloween projects with these easy ideas! Sew on, sew well, and Sew Beautiful.
